The Russia hacking story is just as appealing to those who won: it helps Americans retain the illusion that we're somehow still a struggling band of plucky individualists battling an evil empire. The truth, blindingly obvious to everyone else in the world, is that we are the empire. It's interesting, though, how the media fosters conflict and disunity among Americans at home by focusing on secondary shit like whether gay marriage should be legal, while at the same time trying to rally us to the colors by inflating the threat of Russia or Islamic radicalism. The extent to which Americans allow themselves to be manipulated by this bullshit would be astonishing if it weren't so pathetic.
