I featured classic jazz the last few Saturdays, but let's go in an entirely different direction today. I pulled out some of my favorite pop CDs this week, and got stuck on Shawn Colvin's Cover Girl (1994). Colvin gives fine treatments to some great songs written by Steve Earle, Talking Heads, Tom Waits and several others. Shawn is also a good songwriter, so I threw in a couple of her originals. Her big "hit" was Sunny Came Home, which you can listen to on youtube. Enjoy.
- Window On The World — from Cover Girl, song by Tom Littlefield
- Shotgun Down The Avalanche — co-written with producer John Leventhal, from Steady On (1989), with Allison Krause
- Polaroids — from Fat City (1992)
- Someday — from Cover Girl, song by Steve Earle, with Mary Chapin Carpenter (low volume alert)
- This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody) — from Cover Girl, song by Talking Heads, from Speaking In Tongues (1983)
Thanks Dave for expanding my musical knowledge.
