Today we pay tribute to George Gershwin (1898-1937). There is little more that can be said about one of America's greatest composers other than to say we're grateful for the music he gave us in his too-short 39 years . Here's an audio review of the re-release of Rhapsody In Blue, the Gershwin biopic. It contains some nice sound clips from the film (e.g. Oscar Levant, Al Jolson). Those optimistic, exuberant days are long gone now.
- Someone To Watch Over Me (from Woody Allen's Manhattan, Zubin Mehta & The New York Philharmonic)
- Embraceable You (Ella Fitzgerald)
- Three Preludes (Shura Cherkassky)
- Love Is Here To Stay (Nat King Cole)
- Rhapsody In Blue (full version, Cleveland Orchestra)
