I had cause to look at the EIA's figures on consumption and production, recently, and note that in 14 of the last 16 months, consumption was estimated to have exceeded production (I didn't look further back than 16 months). I also checked the latest BP statistical report that showed production of petroleum products as flat for the last few years. It's no wonder, then, that oil prices have remained high, by historical standards.
