It's let's get some perspective day. Tired of economists? Politicians? Pundits? Other assorted assholes & idiots?
I know I am.
It's time to take the longer view.
- The opening scenes of the movie Contact, based on Carl Sagan's novel
- Nick Lane probes the mysteries of how complex eukaryotic life arose on Earth
- The formation of the Earth 4.6 billion years ago, and the beginning of plate tectonics
- Monty Python's The Galaxy Song, and finally, the Meaning Of Life
Life on earth is a one shot proposition although bacteria and DNA might have landed on comets with spores from outer space. If the space time continuum has an astral parallel "energy field" for life forms or for non living things so they can will themselves into life consciousness in their striving towards "God" is an interesting concept. The universe as a sort of conscious being, Gaia for earth, being an interesting idea and the short term biological lifeforms developed by the mother planet as "pets" to help her to regulate herself. The concept of consciousness, God, life should be newly understood. Modern ecological concepts are going in the direction of animism/shamanism. Like thought forms, etc. tramsmitted among life forms like radio waves and influenced by magnetic fields of planets, meaning mass movements in humanity due to planetyry constellations for example. So astrology, mind reading etc. can all be possibilities. Actively developing a non materialistic(i.e. purely scientific) and non religious culture(in the traditional sense where a "revealed" text doctrine hinders further knowledge and development) could promote a way out of a cultural dead end since the so-called enlightenment took over from the middle ages.
