Very sad today. Angry too—at Life, which is not the unalloyed blessing so many people like to pretend it is.
And it is that pretending—those myths and delusions we maintain in our economic life, in our politics, and in most other human affairs—that makes life suck much more than it would otherwise. But there's no changing it. For you see, it's psychologically necessary for some that thousands (or millions) should suffer before they will admit their sins, lies, errors, corruption or hypocrisy. Or maybe they lack a conscience altogether. Maybe they just don't care. It makes no difference in the end. The result is always the same.
Thanks to American Rhetoric for the film clips.
Sorry, Dave. Hang in there.
