Here's the Saturday remedy for what ails us. I'm thinking about the tragic oil spill today, so we'll start off with Talking Heads' Once In A Lifetime—
You may find yourself living in a shotgun shack
You may find yourself in another part of the world
You may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile
You may find yourself in a beautiful house, with a beautiful wife
You may ask yourself: well... how did I get here?
...
You may ask yourself
What is that beautiful house?
You may ask yourself
Where does that highway lead to?
You may ask yourself
Am I right?... Am I wrong?
You may say to yourself
My God!... what have I done?
Oh, Lord, Have Mercy! — let us stop that oil from flowing out of that pipe. Accordingly, Cannonball Adderley does Joe Zawinul's (Weather Report) jazz classic Mercy, Mercy, Mercy. For the film clip, I've decided to go with an amazing trailer from the upcoming movie Kinshasa Symphony. If Americans had only half the can-do spirit, only half the get-up-and-go the Africans in this movie have, this blog would not be necessary because America would not be in Decline. Unfortunately, that's not the way it is, but music sure does help.
