The reality is that living things, including humans, can live without carbon fuels but not without food and water. (Probably fewer humans however) New carbon fuel production increasingly puts the environment, food and water, at risk.

As a side note a relative of mine is a senior geologist for Exxon and she told me months ago that her company had given up on deep water drilling because it was simply too risky.
