Dave, our corporate masters work hard to keep us distracted from issues of substance(see; television, video games, internet, etc.) And their flunkies work hard to label people that are trying to shine a light on the real world as any number of insulting terms(doomer, crank, etc.) P.R. exists solely, and was invented specificly to feed bullshit to the public.

"Most Americns don't have a pot to piss in. Let's get real. Is that still permitted in the United States?"

The problem is that for the world as a whole, not having a pot to piss in is the norm and is very much permitted. With globalization, corporations can pay little to nothing for labor overseas. Along with talking about income inequality, politicians also need to talk about 'free' trade. If our country ships entire industries overseas and is then incapable of making those products, it's really not 'free trade' any more, is it? It is then forced trade. Politicians are also afraid of dealing with the incentives corporations get for shipping these jobs overseas.

What I love the most about this is that, in yonder Land of the Fee (sic), your propaganda machine operates exactly the same as your erstwhile sworn "enemies of the people", namely the Nazi propaganda machine and the Stalinist propaganda machine and the Maoist propaganda machine. All lies and deceptions by the State designed to keep the population in check while pretending to be their protectors.

Orwell explains it all in 1984. It is so comical that I choke on my cereal every morning, and I'm still choking as I cry into my cocoa last thing at night.

Stewart injects even more confusion and ignorance into an already ignorant and confused social discourse. Fuck him. Fuck everything he stands for. Fuck everyone who watches and enjoys him. Fuck Comedy Central.

Stewart offers a veneer of understanding while still pouring the wine of escapism. In short, he lets stupid people feel smart and makes them laugh. Like all media based entertainment, it's still a money game, of course, and questioning the underlying system is a big no-no.

I believe George Bernard Shaw said that Democracy substitutes election by the incompetent many for appointment by the corrupt few. And the incompetent many seem to select the corrupt few anyway. It is a sad reflection of the inherent, brutal, hierarchical nature of humanity.
