I had reported that the Arctic sea ice had shrunk to record levels some weeks ago, but it kept on melting! So the previous record set in late August was shattered a few weeks later.

The last point on the graph is for 2011. The observed 2012 point is well below the red polynomial trend line. If one were to redraw the line so as to go through or near the 2012 point it would be a much steeper line.
